The New Moon
Moon phases
“The moon belongs to everyone, the best things in life are free,” the lyrics of a very old song celebrates the moon and the stars. Man has been celebrating the existence of the moon, sometimes described as a cold hard rock floating in space, trapped in the orbital pull of the earth, since the first caveperson drew it on a cave wall. According to some scientific studies the moon will eventually break free of the earth’s gravitational hold and one day roam the universe, until it gets caught in the gravitational pull of another planet. This is all science and comforting for those whose mind can’t comprehend a world of uncertainty. You know, the Neil deGrasse Tyson types. Don’t get me wrong, I think Neil deGrasse Tyson is great, and I’m all for scientific research and belief, but there is the metaphysical realm, yet to be explored by man.
Oh man is starting. Einstein and Tesla, among others, were very open to the metaphysical realm. When I speak of the Moon, the physical boulder in the sky orbiting around the planet Earth, I think of the moon as a cog in the universal machine which is just the right size to be held by the Earth, because the friction or energy created by the give and take of the energetic pull of the planets is, in my belief, without any doubt what makes the universe exist. Oh, there’s a lot more to this, but discussion of this is above my pay grade. What we need to know is some basic moon information, before we can delve into the metaphysical power of the moon.
First, we need to know that the moon revolves around the earth in a 28-day cycle, and during that cycle it dips in and out of the shadow of the earth and appears to the planet side as going from new, or dark of the moon, completely eclipsed by the planet, to first quarter, full, and last quarter. Today’s moon lesson is on the new moon, or the dark of the moon. This is considered by many, believers in the metaphysical and non-believers as well, to be a very strong energetic time in the moon cycle. Some argue as to whether the new moon or the full moon is stronger or has more of an effect than the full moon. I would argue that the new and full moons energies are equally important in different ways.
The New Moon, which energy runs three days, the day before it reaches apex, the day of apex and the day after, is about beginnings. This is when any practitioner of magic, okay, I’ll come out and say witchcraft, is trained to start new projects, or focus energy on new beginnings. Now that I’ve broached the “W” word, I need to point out that most all “organized” religions practice the “W” word. In fact, ALL organized religions evolved from Witchcraft, and the moon played a huge role in this belief system. The moon is associated with feminine energy and is symbolic of the Goddess. When praying to the moon it might help to choose which deity you are communicating with, as well as the type of prayer/request energy you are trying to raise. You don’t need The Morrigan or Kali to slay your opposition for a potential job promotion, no matter how satisfying that might feel for a brief moment.
Now I want to delve into the moon and being an intuitive. I’ve spoken of using your intuition in reading tarot cards, but living an intuitive life is taking your belief in yourself to a higher level. The moon energy heightens your intuition if you allow yourself to absorb it. So bearing in mind the dark of the moon is a beginning period, you are mixing the ingredients of your plan for something in your life. Whether it is serious planning, like job, relationship, life changes, or frivolous planning like job, relationship, life changes, know that the intention/energy you put into the initial stages (the thought process) helps strengthen the outcome. The more positive the energy being raised, from a pure heart if you happen to have one handy, the stronger the structure of your intention.
I don’t want non-believers in the metaphysical to feel as though the moon has no significant meaning to them, because the energy pull of the moon on the tides also effects ALL other water on the planet including that which is in the human body. That’s right, a force outside of yourself controls how the fluid in your brain ebbs and flows. In other words, the pull of the moon effects how people feel, act and think. The moon/energy is part of us, as we are part of it.
On an intuitive level, especially a new intuitive, make sure to venture slowly into the moon energy realm. remember, not everything you encounter in the metaphysical realm is harmless. In fact, think of the metaphysical realm as no different than Australia. A beautiful place full of deadly things that will kill you if you don’t exercise caution. In other words, it’s just like the real world where we live our mundane existences. Given what we are being introduced to in the way of the multiverse, is it any less likely to have an overlay realm of metaphysical existence that is purely on an energetic level? That’s a question for another day.
So today’s lesson. The moon is a conduit of energy in the universe that effects everything on earth, and if nothing else it gives us beauty and is free to admire.
